Eliván Martínez Mercado is a reporter for the Centro de Periodismo Investigativo in Puerto Rico. After studying foreign languages at the University of Puerto Rico, he began his journalistic career in 2001 in El Nuevo Herald in Miami and then in El Nuevo Día. He studied at the UAM / El País Journalism School in Madrid in 2006. Now it is dedicated to develop communications strategies for cultural, environmental, sports and non-profit initiatives. He won in 2012 a grant from The Fund for Investigative Journalism, which led him to discover 'Santini's Secret Tax', a series that has earned him awards from the Overseas Press Club and the Association of Journalists of Puerto Rico. His chronicles 'The Treasure of a Rebel Scientist' and 'The People Who Dreamed Back to Music' also earned him national awards.
